Virginia Beach City Public Schools has been a continual client of VIA design architects, pc since 1997. We have designed and built over $63,850,000 of facility modernizations, additions, renovations and new construction.
Our most recent commission was for the master planning and design of a Prototype Tri-School campus on a 54 acre site. This site originally had two 1950’s K-5 schools in desperate need of modernization or replacement. The master planning and programming process proved the need for (3) schools and a new road made to program each building for only 2-grade levels each, so K-1, 2-3 + 4-5 buildings were planned. This plan called for $48,000,000 of construction.
Available construction funding of $32,000,000 allowed the construction of two new 92,000 SF facilities, a new road and the re-programming of one of the existing schools while the other existing school was demolished. As with most educational projects the implementation plan was heavily phased to allow occupancy through the entire process.
