Town of Cape Charles
Cape Charles, VA |
Cape Charles’ goal is to be “One of the best harbor areas in the country” founded on maritime and transportation heritage. The town was created in 1884 as a planned community and is listed on the National Registry for Historic Districts.
Our role in taking on this challenge was to overcome the list of needs for the master plan by improving the town’s image and marketability, promote the area as a special place to live, work, recreate and visit, establish an environmentally friendly pedestrian + public space, build upon and improve the current guidelines, and identify phasing and implementation strategies that are realistic and obtainable.
Consideration for land and water usage include expanded docks to increase revenue, strategic harbor entrance location and orientation of the basin, waterfront’s central location to downtown and surrounding facilities, and existing and new building positions and heritage of the harbor and town’s building stock.
