Main Street Tower Pedestrian Bridge
Client: NEVA Properties

23,700 sf :: $2 million

The Marriott Hotel and Conference Center connects to a parking
garage on the third floor of each structure via a skywalk. The
Main Street Tower Pedestrian Bridge project completed the
circulation path on the adjacent side of the garage leading to a
13-floor, high-rise office building, the Main Street Tower. The
underside of the bridge is approximately 29 feet above the
Atlantic Street level.

The bridge consists of a rigid frame truss constructed of
painted steel tubes. Within the structural steel lies the pedestrian
enclosure bearing a concrete on metal deck floor, black
anodized aluminum frame with tinted laminated glass, and a
single ply roof over insulation on a painted metal deck. The
interior finishes include a resilient tile floor and painted metal
ceiling. The bridge is closed off at each end with aluminum
doors and lit on the interior only. Ventilation is achieved through
natural convection. This project is a contribution to the
downtown redevelopment and compliments the surrounding
urban fabric. The vocabulary of the bridge is simple and honest.
The vierendiel truss is expressed clearly as an external
element and mimics the rhythm of the parking garage, while the
glass enclosure floats through the truss and compliments
the black glass high-rise.
