VIA design architects, pc assisted Chesapeake Public Schools
in establishing a middle school educational program for these
two schools. Extensive interviews with department heads
were conducted to establish this program. The project was on
a tight time frame, so careful management of the client was
required for this phase. The design of the two schools is a site
adapt with flexibility in the building footprint to accommodate
two
separate sites. Each school is 192,459sf with a
construction
budget of $16, 500,000 each, including site
improvements. The
school program consists of 48 general
classrooms, 12 science
rooms, art, computer, language,
music, general special
education, cross categorical special-
ed, and business labs/
classrooms. A 750 seat auditorium,
media center, kitchen/dining,
a multi-purpose room, and two
gymnasiums are the larger
program components. These
schools house grades 6, 7, and 8,
and Hickory will share
several of its athletic fields with the
adjacent new high school. |
