Hampton River - Hampton, Virginia
515 Bridge Street Condominium
The vision for the Hampton River Condominium and Marina project is an urban redevelopment of an existing marina site. The project includes the demolition of all existing structures on the site, construction of a new 5-story, 30-unit luxury condominium with parking below the building, a swimming pool, a lap exercise pool, shuffle board courts, open terrace area and open promenade on the waterfront side, and a redeveloped marina featuring a water born pavilion and boat slips.
This project is a model in the re-establishment of urban development within the downtown area of Hampton. The project converts an industrial area into a vibrant residential destination within the established historic neighborhood and provides community access to the waterfront marina and the Hampton River. The residences will have views of the Harbor as well as walking access to the Air and Space Museum and downtown district of shops and services.
Hampton's redevelopment initiative gives the waterfront back to the citizens. The water belongs to everyone and should be accessible and visible to all, including those not privileged in the ownership of this treasure.
Maintaining visual transparency through this site became the challenge for the design team given the magnitude of the development program and the need to place parking below the building.
All special waterfront planning considerations are present in this project, including flood plain design, Chesapeake Bay act requirements, DEQ and VMRC approvals. These considerations are in tandem with vistas and historical urban context.
This redevelopment has become Hampton's jewel.
